Jim, The max shutter speed is more crucial for shooting outdoors in bright light with fast glass. I have run into a wall when shooting at f2.8 or larger and the shutter speed can only go to 1/8000 and I get an over exposed image. I have to close my aperture. You will run into this situation more frequently when you are limited to 1/4000.
