I read Thom's piece as well but am not surprised too much. I had an incident where my D800 with 70-200 f/2.8 was on a table 4 feet high next to me near my pool. Somehow the camera fell off the table and onto grass. Grass was soft; My d800 was unharmed but the 70-200 had to go to Nikon because the zoom ring got very stiff. I was very surprised as the height it fell was small and the impact was "soft".
Yes my lens is not the D800 Thom refers to but I think they are both very delicate. I have all the stuff insured as mentioned above. I think it makes sense given our investments in the gear we own. ------------- Please visit my galleries: Reza Gorji Photography
