Ive loved and hated this thread !!! A few weeks back I made up my mind and decided i was going to make the plunge as well from a D7000 to the D800 ( Im going to the camera shop this week ) My perspective is not from a technical standpoint only.

I love my D7000 but want perhaps more ..... the low light capabilities/less noise , brighter viewfinder, and 36
mega pixels for cropping is big for me. Notice i said want not need. Am I happy with my D7000 - indeed !! Is it wrong to want more ?? My glass includes the holy trinity 2.8s a 105 Micro 2.8 and the Sig 150-500.I will be adding the 50mm 1.8. It wont be necessary to buy alot of glass to compliment the D800- maybe an 85mm down the road.. Primes mmmmmmmmm

There are a lot of arguments both pro and con given here and they all have validity !!! Can I gain from learning more about lighting - sure - we all can - well at least us ametures , better myself with some more experience and perhaps courses - again sure. Need for a computer upgrade ?? - well that is almost a given on a regular basis.

Im not looking at a loan nor am i rich by any means , i am retired or sometimes semi retired - some days im not sure !! I do know that Iam not getting any younger Im 55 and desire the best or near best in all I do and buy.

Partial NAS I am sure - so what , i think we are all guilty of it at sometime or another, if we weren't we would all just have point and shoots or bridge cameras. I dont need a new cam I want one . A professional can justify expenses but all us others do it for fun and passion.

For me its alot of little things.... some technical some, for lack of better words- emotional i guess.

Weighing all the logic and arguments on this thread has been to say the least interesting. On a few occasions I have thought - save the $$$ go further with the D7000 (For now I plan on keeping and using it ) but then i realize my heart is set on the D800 .

So I have decided to follow my heart , the last time I did that was 33 years ago and I married her and to this day no regrets.

So my advice .... follow what you and your heart want !! I learn more about my wife every day and i will surely do the same with the D7000 AND D800 !!!! Now if she would only let me take more pics of her ........
