If you need the best lenses to get the best of what the D800 can offer, such as the pros that produced photos for Nikon and the D800s marketing, then the lenses are very appropriate.
A myth that was quickly dispelled after release of the D800 is that you had to have one of the lenses mentioned in the D800 Technical guide. In the guide Nikon actually stated "some of the lenses you can use for enhanced sharpness" and they listed 16 lenses. While this is true (the statement should be read and interpreted literally, which is why I quoted what was printed), many use lenses that produce extraordinary photos and cost much less than those listed in the technical guide.
Based on what I use and I have seen from posted photos - the D800s produces the best a lens can provide, which can be significantly better than the same lens on other cameras. I am not even sure there should be a list of which lenses should not be used on the D800.
