Are you sure it wasn't just a buffer overrun? this happened to me yesterday during a commercial shoot and I put the camera down and used my D300 for a while. During a break i looked at the D800 and all was good. that's when i remembered it ha a slow card in it from the wedding last weekend when I ran out of high speed cards. I was just shooting faster than the camera could write and filld up the buffer.
