Hi James,

This may answer your question...

Note the position of the legs relative to the outer side body and wings. If your bird had the same stance then focus on the branch should have been about a quarter to half inch or so in front of the legs.

I've pondered the same thing, on occasion, with a side angle like that, and came to the conclusion that the legs are usually - but not always! - inside of the body and therefore the perch should come to focus slightly in front of the feet.
