Here is a sample of what I perceive to be slight front focussing. The pic is a slightly downsampled crop that is otherwise unmodified. the bird is a Bronze Mannikin (small finch about 2" in length). Shooting conditions f8, 1/250s fill-in flash with SB800, ISO 320. AFC single point. the focus point is in the white patch immediately to the left of the green patch on the wing.
What I am seeing is that although sharp the depth of field seems centred in front of the focus point. the focus fades quickly to the rear but look at the plant stalk that the bird is perched on. there is a zone somewhat in front of the focus point that seems even sharper. About 80% of my shots are coming out like this. Do you agree? comments welcome.
