I am not a fan of lens tuning as we have limited means of correction, and when you change one aspect of lens you affect another. This becomes much more complicated with zoom lenses.
However after having read a plethora of lens tuning information and post I did take an 85mm f/1.4 and fine tune it on a couple of camera bodies. It is much better overall unless I am nearer than 8 feet to by subject.
When young I was taught that I needed to learn my equipment, so often that meant shooting hundreds if not thousands of photos to learn the sweet spots of a camera and lens combination. My 85mm f/1.4 was the worst of them - but the fine tuning did help.
Currently I have no intent to test all of my lenses but if I see a consistent problem with a camera lens combination, I'll probably fine tune the setup. When we get the ability to fine tune more than one point and a more systematic and accurate testing methods arrive, I'll have more faith in the process.
