No of course they would come apart when you want a fully charged pair of batteries. Since I've only had the D800 about a month I haven't run into that situation yet. I simply meant to say that I could't think of any other reasons to remove the MB-D12.

Shooting hand held I really like the way the D800 with grip feels in my hands. Very much like my F5.


Also, if you remove the battery grip, you'll need a different L-bracket (at least with the RRS)if you want to still use a tripod.
