Lenses, and most photography equipment, is a tradeoff between quality of output, size, weight cost and versatility.
You can have something of great versatility , but probably lack the quality of another product. You can have something of light weight and size, but there is probably something more capable but of larger size and weight. And so on…as an example:
I wanted a wide angle lens, looked the 14mm f/2.8 prime but it was about the same price a the 14-24mm zoom which had more versatility for little more cost, but the price was more than I wanted to pay. I considered the 16-35 f/4.0 but need I wider aperture for some of shooting situations. I selected the 17-35 f/2.8 for my use and rent the 14mm or 14-24mm when I need or the other.
This is the reason we have so many choices in almost anything we want to buy.
Brian - excellent photograph. I have never seen gear of that nature so clean!
