The refurbs are not a good idea. They come with a 90-day warranty and are not eligible for Nikon's own 2 year extended warranty. I did some research on it when considering a refurbed D600 and chatted with an Adorama sales person, who confirmed it. I guess the reason for it not qualifying for the extended warranty is apparent, since it appears Nikon is unable or unwilling to truly fix the defective units. Maybe they think buyers won't notice? Fortunately, I bought a used D800 locally and was able to test it beforehand to make sure it did not have any focus or other issues.
