Oh, go ahead and complain anyway, Hal. Computer and camera makers are always talking about the "out of box experience," and yours should have been better than that.
But I agree with you. I sent my D3 in for a quite expensive repair on an autofocus problem. It came back with a very nice, very complete CLA, but the problem was still there. It's on its way back now. But that's the first time in the decades I've been using Nikon stuff that something like this has happened. No outfit's perfect, but Nikon's close enough.
