Yea, admittedly I would like to have the compass feature, but I can live without it. One advantage I found with the GP1 was that it serve as a sort of "converter" so I can use my D7000 compatible intervalometer with the 10-pin D800E. That can, of course be a detriment if all of your accessories are 10-pin.
