In my opinion the D700 is superior to the D7000. To re-enforce this, if I was to loose either, then let it be the D7000. I just cannot even contemplate photography without my D700. The D7000 is a potent weapon, no arguments there.
What annoys me mostly is this obsession that both Canon and Nikon have with Video. It is a substantial extra cost in the build of the camera. When the D800 (or whatever it's called) is launched I can promise you I will not even look at it's video spec. I never used it on the D90 and haven't even switched it on with the D7000. I'm a serious still photographer and have no need for such diversions, if I ever do I'll buy a dedicated video recorder.
In short, I think that Nikon will eventually abandon this fixation with combined still/video aspect in the pro cameras. I think that's what makes my D700 so special.
