"RE: D7000 or D7100"

The D7100 is a more flexible camera but the comments about higher grain has some merit not because the D7100 is in anyway weak in that area but the D7000 at ISO 100 is so quiet, no DX camera and only 3 cameras of any format had lower read noise. For those working at low ISO this translates to more flexible files in being able to push shadows a couple stops more than the D7100. Most of the uses for users of Dx require higher ISO however to the differences melt away and the increased resolution swings the IQ pointer distinctly towards the D7100. I still like my D7000 but I am primarily using it with flash and low ISO.
For most users, the benefits of the D7100 super AF and resolution would be desired more. If my primary camera was not the D800, I would have traded the D7000 for a D7100 in a minute. As it is now commonly rumored that the d400 is not a pipe dream and more of a probable, I am content to wait until it shows....or not.
No company has offered such great cameras that even the smallest nuance if used to differentiate first from second place.
But then again, I went out and shot with my D90 last week and had almost forgotten how good that is, possibly the optimum balance between forgiving technique flaws and quality of images and bullet proof body. With the grip and two batteries is it heavier than a D800 without a grip.
I am in Finland today shooting landscape and looking for a possible summer home, beautiful country. I am shooting the D800 with the 24.14 and the D7000 with the 10-20.
