You'll be fine. You may discover that your technique isn't as good as you thought. It will be easier now to tell that these lenses aren't as good as some of the others - for example it will now be easier to see that the new 80-400 afs is somewhat better than the older 80-400 afd. But you won't find that you get terrible results. In fact if you downsize your 24mp file to 6mp (same size as your d50), the results will be as good and probably better.
