The 1.3x crop mode on the D7100 stacks with your existing 1.5x crop of the sensor, so in essence it gives your lenses more reach when you enable it.It's primary purpose is to give you a faster continuous shooting speed and deeper buffer when your subject is taking up only a small portion of the frame.
