Yes I have considered those options, but the siren song of the D7100 shattered those ships on the rocks. Since I will be keeping the D7100 for at least five years, I want the latest technology, and money is not an issue. The FX choices were tempting, but since most of my work is at longer focal lengths I appreciate the DX crop factor, as well as the lighter weight of the equipment.
As for my D80, my wife has dibs on that! While she knows zip about the technical side of photography, she borrowed my D80 with my humble 18-200mm lens one day in Hawaii to shoot some flowers and produced these hand-held shots. Ever since she has been encouraging me to upgrade so she can have the D80. What a gal! Not a bad trick for those infected with a bad dose of NAS!
