I think the D4 is the Jack of all Trades camera for Nikon now. What we don't have is a cheaper mini-D4 JOAT.

Nikon has definitely gone in a different direction. I ended up keeping my D700 and adding a D800e. To be fair I use the 800e most of the time, even for sports. You adjust to having fewer frames per second in my opinion. It wasn't that long ago that sport shooters got great photos with less. It is a bit of a tease to spoil us and then take it away, but they have given us the ability to record crazy micro-detail, and crop 75% of a photo so I'll take it.
