I have brought this matter up before. I have two D700 bodies. Both have had hot shoes replaced and one is going to need it again. Both have also started to shed different sections of rubber covers.
The covers I can understand. I use my cameras rather heavily and in the summer around St. Louis, one tends to sweat like a pig.
But the hot shoes are a different matter. I am just about to send another one in for hot shoe replacement. My advice to all is to get a flash bracket and cord to take the strain off of your hot shoes. There is simply something wrong. I wasn't even using my SB-800s that much with the superb high-ISO capability of the D700. I have complained to Nikon -- but to date, there has been NO RESPONSE.
