I see in your equipment list you already have a nice collection of manual focus lenses so you're not a newcomer to focusing and using these lenses.
The AI 50mm f1.2 lens is very nice on the D700. Since the view is nice and bright in the viewfinder and the DOF is so narrow I find focusing is not a problem. Even the focus confirmation dot appears to pop in and out fairly quickly.
The 50mm f1.2 produces very nice photos with a certain signature when used wide open. It is somewhat soft but it still isolates the subject from the background quite nicely. I really like fast lenses shot wide open. The Nikon 50mm and 55mm f1.2 lenses are my favorites. I'm sure you will enjoy yours.
