I shifted from an F5 film camera to a Nikon digital when I was in Iraq for the Army Corps of Engineers in 2003, starting with the D1X. My fiance got me a D100 for a homecoming present and I later replaced that with a D200. When I moved to the D700 two years ago my first few weeks were spent going "WOW!" It was truly a revolutionary transition versus an evolutionary enhancement as it had been with the D1X, D100 to D200 transition. The images were simply stunning. Even today, as new bodies swirl around us, I am considering adding a 3rd D700 body. My only qualification is that Nikon has lost a tad of its "tank" mentality since the D200. But since I use them to take photos with instead of sledge hammers, I guess that's OK! You'll love your D700 -- just love it. Welcome to the fold.
