On the left side as well, with one exception: when I have a bigger lens mounted (80-200, 80-400), I have been known to put the camera for a short period on the lens hood, lens pointing down.

It's quite stable, actually, even with the MB-10! But I repeat that it is for short periods only, typically to answer a phone or blow my nose. The rest of the time, my kit is in a closet, with a "sub-kit" always ready to go!
