I've had my D700 for about 2 or 3 years now and I think I just got passed the 10k mark. I'm always really surprised when I see people with tens of thousands of shots. I guess the reason for my "low" shutter count is because I came from a film mentality where each frame was important since there was only 24 to 36 exposures. With medium format it was 12 frames.
If you're just going into full frame, especially the D700, keep in mind that the weight of the camera is pretty high, especially when compared to some of the DX cameras. They're also larger so if weight and medium to large cameras are an issue, then stick with what you're using. If you go to a store and check it out, buy it from that store. It's unfair using them as an online showroom.
