I'm so glad someone brought this post back to the top again. I add my vote to the notion it should be pinned. The information it contains is so useful.
After reading JRP's article and installing the new picture controls, I've been using the C-AAA Standard-02 but not getting the results I see in his samples, which I assume are not pp'd.
My problem is that my pictures look clear but dull and flat, almost overexposed.
Question one: What white balance should I be using with this picture control. Im using auto, but should I use some other selection. I read in one article that the writer suggested the cloudy to make the pictures brighter but that would make my problem worse I think.
Question two: Should I turn off the active D lighting when relying on a custom picture control.
Ive been looking at my jpegs as sort of a proof of what my NEF files will look like when I can get to them but so far Im not happy with what Im getting, they are just too flat. I'd like more richness too the colors. Am I off base in the way Im jusing the jpegs?
Anyone have an answer or even several answers? I'd love to hear any suggestions. Thanks
