With the D700, "grain" is a non-issue until you are above ISO 2000.The "base ISO" for the D700 is ISO 200, which should produce the cleanest possible images and greatest dynamic range.If you really need slow shutter speeds, you can also consider a ND filter.-JasonJason P.
