I thought that cleaning was independent of the black selection seeing that they use the same head. You've confirmed my assumption.
I did a head alignment after I saw the banding. I found that recommendation in the "Solving Problems" section of the manual. It's interesting that Epson does not mention alignment on the big "Start Here" sheet or in the "Setting Up ..." chapter of the manual.
Epson only supplies 10 sheets of Luster with the printer, so that runs out quickly. I also used some lighter weight Epson Glossy paper that I had in my stock. At this point I can't say for sure whether the banding happened on the Luster or not. So curling of the paper could be a factor. I have a paper order arriving tomorrow, so I'll retest then.
