Thanks for the info. Maybe NEFs is the way to go, but as I said earlier, I don't need perfection. Having said that, although I got half decent results last night, the pix are still a bit grainy and gritty compared to the slides.
Anyways, as I noted a few posts ago, the Coolscan has gone u/s. It was failing its power up sequence, so a rapid blinking green occured, which changed to a steady green (as it should). In the troubleshooting section they suggest reinstalling Nikon Scan 4.
This fault resulted in it previewing ok, but only doing a tiny portion of the scan, before changing to 'no scanning items' on the stuatus box.
Well this morning, I tapped gently on its lid as it started up-thinking a bit of dust might be in there somewhere, due lack of recent use- and bless it, she ran through the self test ok. No rapid blinking light.
Hurrah, thought I, but no- same problem! Just a tiny heavily pixellated strip instead of the Scan. Still previewing ok.
The Scanners powering up OK though, so could it be something else that I'm doing? Also, how can they repair it if it powers up ok?
Also, I wondered if I have the resolution set to max. I can't see anywhere in the menus to vary this.
