Like you, I have "Tons" of K64 slides from way back in the late '60s through '90s. I never had a lot of space to deal with storage and it was easier for me to store slides than prints and negatives. Unfortunately I have not gotten around to doing my slides yet. The question I would ask you is what software are you using to process your slides. Since a film negative or slide is "like" a raw image this may be what you are seeing. A raw file never looks as good as a jpeg because there isn't anything done to it, it is "raw". A few Nikonians have given good reviews on SilverFast by LaserSoft Imaging for converting film/slides to digital.
