I wouldn't worry to much about the resolution. I doubt that's even visible in a print.

I have a friend who runs the 3800 and because of the limited availability of 17x25" cut sheets (which of course are mandatory if you want to use the width of the printer and the 2:3 aspect ratio of our cameras) he cuts from 17" rolls and uses that d-curler or whatever it's called. Lately he's actually relented to printing 14x21" as his largest size since he's sick of messing with the curl.

I've never been a fan of the 38xx printers due to this limitation. There are some companies that make 17x25" cut sheets, but if you're picky about paper then this is too great a limitation. Then look at the 4xxx 17" roll printer and it's expensive and a beast, before long the 7xxx 24" roll isn't looking so bad.
