How long does Epson continued to support discontinued products with ink and such?

I still see ink cartridges widely available for the ancient Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX which was released back in 2001. In fact my local Staples stock these inks, yet they don't stock inks for my rather modern R1900. Go figure...
