Perhaps you have already tried this: but have tried to reinstall the printer driver? I suspect that this is what Epson will ask you to do.
I would ask whether this error is associated with a specific type of paper or various papers. I use OSX and my new 4900 doesn't like some of the Epson Signature Worthy papers. After many calls/e-mails to Epson I was finally told that there is an issue with the driver. For example, my printer will print Ultra Premium Luster and Velvet Fine Art; but it won't take any of the Hot/Cold Press papers when I designate these papers on the printer (I was told to use different profiles for these papers).
