Remove the card from the camera then use a USB 3 card reader. For an application like Lightroom it can be set to open automatically and put you into the import screen. It's very fast and efficient. Using a cable to the camera works but it's a lot slower. Faster cards transfer very fast.

When done put the card back into the camera and use the camera to format the card. ONLY use the camera to format a card. Formatting erases the images at the same time.
