Hi Folks: thanks to all for looking and commenting. It's appreciated. I shot this a few different ways, excluding the top string of lights as one option. To me, the lights balanced out what was otherwise a dark sky and though bright, they contributed to the vibrant street scene. Also, as I walked forward, more of the tower was blocked from view. So, the lights stayed!!
I shot this scene handheld with (forgive me oh Nikon gods) an Olympus EM-5 and a Panasonic 12-35 mm lens at f/2.8, 1/25s and ISO 1600. The lens is very sharp. Additionally, the camera has a very good built in stabilization system. Along with good technique I can get sharp results. Richard
