I'm a P+S (person)...

All my ebay shots taken with Nikon 6200...so it's quite good for this type of thing.

And of old ...Canon S5IS (can buy used on ebay);has macro and SUPER macro ; so it's quite OK too.

Most P+S's seem to do OK,try some out in Costco,Best Buy,etc.
;these newer cameras are amazing...with awesome resalution.

Oh-for snakes - you want some distance - so you have to hunt around for which P+S has best macro at longer distance.
I'd go with a cosmos sensor;they are now putting them in P+S's(lower noise at higher ISO.
