I believe there are quite a few Nikonians with IR converted bodies. Mine is a D1X. It does quite a nice job. The beauty of a converted body is you don't need really slow shutter speeds, The viewfinder is not blacked out by the deep red filter and the conversion normally includes adjusting the AF for IR. The most popular body for conversion at this time seems to be the D200. From what I've read the D7000 may not be the best body for conversion. The problem seems to be with setting the white balance. Also the D7000 is a fairly expensive body to convert to such a specialized application. Don't forget the best IR photos require light rich in IR, like sunlight. So you really don't need really good high ISO performance. For UV photos I use a D1H, a single coated or uncoated lens and black light lighting.
