I have commented on the x10 before but let me add a few comments.
In regards to the RAW button, what you first describe to some degree was how it operated before an update. it now operates as Oliver and Brian describe...no issues.
Second, macro is fantastic and pano is good too...if you enjoy those. Third, not many people talk about it but it may come in handy to know its there....that being the normal focal length is 28-112. BUT, the x10 has in the menu a Intelligent Digital Zoom which doubles that field to 56-224mm. It comes in handy.
Third, you inquired about "feeling". It feels great, and sturdy. Fourth, focusing is fast. Also, as remarked the viewfinder has no info., but learning its framing projections is not difficult. At times I have backed off from my eye slightly to see the focal point in the LCD...an easy way to adapt.
I don't have an issues with menus coming from Nikon. It's quite a little monster with all it can do, and if you research you will see in the EXR modes many people leave it in M size rather than L for jpegs.
Here in the US if the serial number is 22xxx or above you can be sure it has a new sensor. Mine is a 21xxx, but orbs have been nothing I can create without great difficulty and so far, has not warranted me to send mine in for a change.
I usually use ISO up to 1600 but I don;t use noise reduction programs, if you do I am sure you could go higher.
Good luck...great little camera. Mine is always with me.
