It's nice to have a good backup tripod. I have an older Gito alloy model that I use with a spotting scope alongside my camera and 600mm lens on another tripod. The extra height of a big tripod can be qute useful if you are shooting from near the car. But you need to be the judge as to whether the tripod is too heavy to be regularly used.

I would not keep a heavy tripod as your only tripod. There is a big difference between the light carbon fiber models and heavy alloy models.
