My mistake. I was thinking of the long ago post by David (link is below). It’s an interesting comparison of the Markins TH-500 hub and a Gitzo series 5 that includes the tap test. What threw me off was his fifth picture that compares a Gitzo 3540LSV with the Gitzo 5540LS using a TH-55 hub.
I still believe the biggest difference between a “Magica” and a “stock” Gitzo is the Markins hub. So, the TH-300 hub on a GT3541LS would have the same advantages as the TH-500 on a Gitzo series 5. Consequently, a tap test with the redesigned GT3542LS might show a reduced vibration advantage for the Markins hub. Of course the extra cost will still get you a hub that is lighter (maybe stronger), smaller, and allow the legs to collapse tighter - and it sure is prettier.
I’m still eagerly anticipating the day when somebody with a lot more money to spare than me will buy a Gitzo 3542LS and Markins “Magica” and do a comparison test.
