The trick to using a ballhead on a monopod is to tighten the main locking knob to the point where you can fairly easily swivel the lens in the ball, with a bit of tension, but tight enough to keep the ball from flopping over.

Set the friction limiter thumbscrew such that you cannot loosen the main knob enough that the payload flops over hard, and it makes sense to limit the tension to the point I describe above, after you get it set the way you like.

If you are shooting straight and level from a field then you can usually lock the ball down at a comfortable angle - probably near straight and level - and forget about that.

This will make more sense when you put it all together tomorrow
