Actually, I mostly agree with you, my D700 is my "serious" camera and a L-Bracket lives on it, except when I mount the grip for an informal shooting that can last - and I usually have the L and the hex key handy in the bag, just in case, and there's a tripod hiding in the boot of the car, ready to get out at the least solicitation on my part!
But you probably remember that my parallel quest for a bag for the X10 package included that the bag should offer room enough for a small table-top tripod. And I am thinking of getting the RRS BH-25 to mount on top of the Cullmann, too, hence my question. I do have a generic plate, which mounts without a problem on my bigger heads, but it looks silly and makes the camera hard to grip, hence my question about the apparatus for the X10.
And here's the reason why I like tripods with "less serious" compact cameras, here with the LX3 and a table-top tripod on the roof of my car:
And also, with more PP, same combo resting on a ticket machine at the station:
Hope this clarifies!
But it seems that few among us, if any, have bought the L or the plate for the X10. I may live with the Cullman and the tripod socket of the X10, after all
