I use the Kirk BH-1 ball head. The first thing I did after buying it was play with all the knobs testing for smoothness, etc. When first used there was a slight creep when using my 28-300. I then readjusted the "tension Knob" per the included instructions and guess what? - NO creep at all, it locks down beautifully and has a great "sweetspot". Kirk along with Markins and Arca-Swiss are high quality top-tier ball heads worthy of their reputation.
Moral of the story; Leave knobs alone until a full knowledge of the item is understood and a reviewer may not always give an accurate assessment unless everything about their testing methods and knowledge are known.
