Hi Ned and JRP, thanks for the help, but I am having troubles picturing how the stud solution would work.
I can see the stud that i have and the ones you both mention would work when using centre column, but I am trying to use the tripod without the centre column and the legs in the flat out position to get it to the low ~20cm minimum height
I attached a picture of the tripod without the centre column and with the weight hook through the centre of the tripod (without any bolts/studs).
You can see that the hook tip (D0703.04) goes past the tip. So even if I use the stud that was mentioned, the markins head is never going to connect to the top of the tripod to lock it in place as it stops moving once the flat base of the markins head connects with the centre hook piece. The gitzo head doesn't have this problem as its base isn't flat, allowing it to swallow the centre hook piece even though it sticks past the top of the tripod
Unless i'm missing something that you guys are explaining =\
