I just received a new Arcatech GPs ball head with Arcatech's lever clamp. I use RRS L-plates on my D300 and D7000 and have no issues. I also have an assortment of other off-brand plates (nodal plates, tele foot, etc), from various manufacturers (many from Hejnar photo on eBay - quality stuff for simple plates and accessories).
I love the Arcatech. The manual says to loosen the clamp adjustment, close the lever on the plate, tighten the adjustment knob until the plate is tight, open the clamp, and tighten another 1/4-1/8 turn.
If I do this on my RRS plates, all the others clamp nicely. No issues.
Comparatively, I have a cheap Sunwayfoto nodal plate with a built in lever clamp and I have to adjust that clamp for each different plate (or brand) although I don't use it to the point of annoyance.
Both the Acratech and Sunwayfoto clamps have locking clamps. A feature I like over the RRS plates, although the Acratech is (as you would expect) much nicer.
