I purchased a RRS BH-55 ball head with a B2ASII lever clamp in 2007. At the time RRS cautioned against using their lever clamps with competitor's mounting plates due to differences in dove tail angles and widths. I've since standardized on RRS brackets, mounting plates, and rails.
I have on occasion successfully used Kirk plates with my RRS lever clamp. Applications have been either smaller lenses <200mm or camera brackets with wide angle lenses.
On larger lenses >300mm f2.8 I use RRS plates with a Wimberley WH-200 Ver II head with integral QR clamp. I've not had any problems with this combination.
