thanks, fellas. i read your posting about your fortuitous encounter w/ the markins folks, bj. are their heads yet available in the u.s.? i've researched more thoroughly (i'd better get a "A" on this), & have decided to go with the more expensive ones. my reason is that quality costs (why i have continued to stay w/ nikon). it would be a disaster to have equipment fail (locks, etc.) & lose camera. so, jrp, plesase let me know your opinion on bogen 3435QR as it is one of my choices. also on list are: arca swiss b-1, f&l p1-q, kaiser proball (large), & linhof profi II. i've also got to consider QR systems. i'm not sure i want to buy 3 different plates if i do arca type (f2, f100 (to be purchased), & 80-200 f2.8 mounts) if i understand the system correctly. the point about arca types, i believe, is camera twist. but bogen has an anti-twist plate that jrp ordered without all the dedicated plates to order. you always seem to get the right gear. also, i am curious as to why high end QR systems have no spirit levels. would they be superfluous? bogen has them on less expensive models, but not on 3435 or 3436 QRs. only kaiser has them on its QR. sorry about dumb ?'s. so, should i get bogen 3435 (3436 is heavier) or kaiser or ????
