Still working fine. I am suspecting my old CF card was corrupting the camera. Evidently letting the camera sit dead for a couple months cleared the issue. I am using a new 4GB Lexar and so far it's performed perfectly. I will continue using the D70 and see what happens. I am not going to use the original card, which I believe is a Sandisk 2GB. CF is cheap, so into the trash goes the old one.

I am probably also going to download my photos off the camera via USB from now on, that way I do not run the risk of either bent pins or loosened cable issues. It may be slower that way, but my D70 plays second fiddle to my D7000, so not a lot of images to deal with. Wish me luck!
