1.5 seems excessive. Is that a normal compression? One of the things I'd like to use a digital camera for is in conjunction with my analog cameras ... as a previewer. 1.5x would be so different as to be useless.
Frankly, I was ready to jump on the D100 to use it when I travel, especially with the new xray machines they are installing. And 6 meg image files are pretty formidable, but not good enough to displace film such as Velvia and Provia. When I read about the X3, I start to think about a digital SLR as a replacement for conventional, instead of a previsualizer. With the resolution they are touting, I'd live with the other issues, and the 1.5x wouldn't bother me because I wouldn't have to relate it to film.
