Can anyone help me compare the D100 to the D1X in the following 2 respects. I intend to buy one or the other.
1. The focusing mechanism. The D1X has the "focus lock" feature, like Nikon's high-end SLR film cameras. This sounds terrific (I've never had the privilege of using a camera with this feature). Focus lock does not seem to be in the D100 spec. Would I be sacrificing much here if I go with the D100? Or gaining something really worthwhile if I get the D1X?
2. The feel of the grip. I have held the F5, F100, F90, and F80, and to me there is a tremendous difference between the F5/F100 and the F90/80. The latter felt very awkward to me, with no place for the right-hand fingers to grip. But the F5/100 cameras seemed perfectly designed and balanced. The D1X is like the F100, as I understand. Now if the D100 is modeled on the F80, then it might also seem less than beautifully balanced. But one early review specifically lauds the feel and grip. Any views (this is hard, since the camera is not generally available!)??
