At lunch, I went to Fry's Electronics. For $360 I walked out of there with a Ultra SanDisk 512Mb. I figure I'll be shooting either Fine or Normal JPEGS, so I'll be able to hold between 151 to 297 photos on this. SWEET!

A newly formatted 512Mb Compact Flash will hold: 28 Large TIFF, 50 Medium Tiff, 51 Large Compressed RAW, 110 Small TIFF, 151 Large Fine JPEG, 297 Large Normal JPEG, 269 Medium Fine JPEG, 520 Medium Normal JPEG, 572 Small Fine JPEG, 572 Large Basic JPEG, 974 Medium Basic JPEG, 1.0K Small Normal JPEG, and 1.8K Small Basic JPEG.

Definitions (from pages 43 &44 of the D100 manual):
Large - 3008 x 2000
Medium - 2240 x 1488
Small - 1,504 x 1000
Compressed RAW - a lossless raw 12-bit data from the CCD
TIFF - uncompressed 8 bit RGB data (24 bit color)
Fine JPEG - 1:4 compressed JPEG
Normal JPEG - 1:8 compressed JPEG
Basic JPEG - 1:16 JPEG

>75 fine JPEGs on a 256 Mbyte card using the D100.

Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but bubbles.
